Johanna Bertin, author of Messer’s biography Don Messer: The Man Behind the Music will talk about his life, his legacy and his music.  Talented young fiddler Sidney Murgatroyd a member of the Celtic Discovery Performing Troupe will treat us to some of Messers’ signature tunes.  The biography will be available for sale and signing.

The Chestnut Canoe Factory in Rabbit Town

A talk by historian Carol Ferguson about the legendary canoe, the factory and workers that produced it in Rabbit Town, the provincial capital’s most significant industrial neighbourhood.  Offered by the library in partnership with Fredericton Heritage Trust.

New Brunswick Waterfalls

Nick Guitard, author of Waterfalls of New Brunswick and now Waterfalls of New Brunswick: A Guide will talk about his favourite subject.  He’ll show us slides of waterfalls from all corners of the province; he’ll tell us some interesting stories about waterfalls (a little history, a little geology, a little folklore); he’ll tell us how he got to some of the over 100 waterfalls found in “the guide” and how you can too.  Both waterfall books will be available for sale and signing.

5th Annual Celtic Energy Weekend at the York Sunbury Museum

OPEN to all Musicians, Dancers and Music Lovers!

Beginning Thursday, June 17th with Celtic Discovery Performing Troupe concert in Officer’s Square at 7:30pm the weekend continues into Friday night with a Celtic Jam Session at the James Joyce Irish Pub (659 Queen Street) from 6 to 8pm!

On Saturday June 19th, Celtic Energy Weekend offers workshops for fiddle, piano, guitar, dance, drum and mandolin at the York Sunbury Museum. Participants will break for lunch and are invited to enjoy Fiddle Fest where local fiddle students share what they have learned over the year as they perform a concert in Officer’s Square! That evening there will be a Family Ceilidh where workshop attendees and instructors are invited to share what they have learned / taught at this tradidtional Irish dance!

9 – 11: Intermediate Fiddle with Troy MacGillivray ($30)
9:30 – 11:30 Irish Dance: Soft and hard shoe drills for intermediate and up dancers with Marie Short ($30)
9:30 – 10:30 Irish Dance: Beginner soft shoe with Sharon Stanford – Beginner dancers should wear exercise style clothing and running shoes. If a dancer owns ballet or jazz style shoe those can be worn as well. ($10)
9 – 11: New to Fiddle for Children with Krista Touesnard – No fiddle necessary ($20)
9 – 11: Beginner Bodhran Drum with Keegan Manson-Curry ($20)
9 – 11: Beginner and Intermediate Piano with Carolyn Holyoke ($25)
9 – 11: Beginner and Intermediate Guitar with Chris Mercer ($25)
