Fredericton, NB— December 10, 2012: The York Sunbury Historical Society (YSHS) announced the recipients of the 2012 Martha J. Harvey Awards of Distinction. The annual awards honour outstanding contribution to the field of history in central New Brunswick. Award winners, chosen from nominations from YSHS members, were recognized at the Society Christmas luncheon on 4 December 2012 in Fredericton.

The award recipients were selected based on their commitment to central New Brunswick’s history. The award was presented to Brian Hallett for his work and dedication to the YSHS archival records, his research and publication on the history of Douglas community and his continuous support for the Society and Fredericton Region Museum. The second award was presented to Eleanor Stillwell, founder of the Fredericton North Heritage Association.

The presentations took place on 4 December 2012 at the Fredericton Inn, during the York Sunbury Historical Society Christmas luncheon and program.

Formed in 1932, the York Sunbury Historical Society collects, preserves and interprets historical data, records and objects relating to the history of the Province of New Brunswick, and in particular that of York and Sunbury Counties. Last year, the society presented awards to Bob Dallison and George Bidlake.
