Seymour Tyler became a veteran of two world wars, enlisting in the Canadian Army in 1915. When World War Two broke out, Bugle-Sergeant Tyler went overseas with the Carleton-York Regiment, having already been awarded the Siler Bugle. He also distinguished himself as an honoured member of the black community in New Brunswick for the work he did to promote the pride, unity, and dignity of his race through education
