New to Our Collection!

Coronation Cake

A slice of cake that was served during the coronation of King George V in 1911, this slice was given to S. S. M. William H. McFarlane during his service overseas. It's wrapped in tin foil (1998.18.1).

These items just arrived today!  They were donated by Murray McFarlane, grandson of William Henry McFarlane.  The Fredericton Region Museum has William’s tunic and souvenir coronation cake so we were very happy when Murray asked if we would be interested in other objects from the McFarlane family!  One of the objects was the diary that William kept during his trip to attend the coronation in 1911!  It was stored in a little tobacco tin.  It’s too fragile to unfold, so we will be sending the diary to the Provincial Archives right away for treatment!

In my excitement, I took a few photos to share with you!
